Lashing out in anger, construction worker Derek causes an accident on the freeway. His truck escapes unscathed, but he can’t say the same for his conscience. Plagued by nightmares of the wreck, his only comfort comes in the form of nightly visits by a mysterious woman who interrupts his dreams with sensual caresses and words of solace.
Cami has no idea who she is, until she wakes in a hospital bed and learns she has been comatose due to a car wreck. Her visits with Derek must have been a dream, so why can’t she shake the feeling he was a real man who truly needed her help?
When Derek learns his mystery woman is none other than the driver of the car he cut off and she is fighting for her life, he must decide: Is he man enough to face her and ask forgiveness, or will he run away and avoid the consequences of his anger, yet again?

Angela’s Review:
This book was absolutely superb!!!  I’ve read a historical/time travel from Ms. Gage, and now this contemporary with a paranormal twist.  I am now wondering, is there anything this author can’t write. The answer is a definite No!
The characters were believable, and I could totally relate to Cami’s fear of highways, and the trauma that lay behind it. The author gave her just enough vulnerability, to make your heart swoon when Derek stepped up to save the day. Cami totally needed a guy like Derek, who was strong enough to stand by her side, as she dealt with her medical and past issues.

I loved that Derek was just an everyday blue-collar worker. I could envision him walking around his house with a power drill, as he hung the curtain rods, and thought the only thing sexier than a guy with a power tool, is a kilted guy with a power tool. Even though he had anger issues, it was very easy to be sympathetic to his character, because of the strong bond with his young daughter, and his determination to be a better parent, than his own father.  Derek was a sexy, and it was very easy to fall in love with him.
This story was magical in every way, and I was unable to put it down. I consumed it in one evening, and I found myself excitedly telling friends and family that there wasn’t one emotion that this author wasn’t able to engage me in as a reader. At times my heart was literally racing, and then breaking, as scenes brought tears to my eyes…and I was only 100 pages into the book. Then the happily ever can only be explained with a…….BIG SIGH!!  If you want to read an amazing contemporary romance with a magical twist, as two hearts that are destined to find one another, then you DO NOT want to miss Road Rage by Jessi Gage!

Genre:  Historical Romance

Length:  150 pages

Can a foundering seaside village survive the onslaught of marauding Vikings bearing down on them? Desperate to save her village from a band of Norsemen sweeping down the coastline, Kaylla catches her first ray of hope when she discovers one of the pillaging heathens washed ashore. Perhaps they can use this captive to bargain for the safety of their village. Rolf Bloodhands, sole survivor of a traitorous attack on his king’s fleet, assures her that his kinsmen will not spare the easy conquest of their waning village for the life of one man. Instead he teaches them the basics of defense and combat with the meager weapons they have available. If they fail to stave off the invaders, the few villagers left will either be killed or enslaved.

With only two days to prepare for an invasion sure to decimate her village, Kaylla is shocked by her attraction to the hunky Norseman she has enslaved. Who knew fear of imminent death could drive an innocent woman to explore the oldest sins known to man.

Angela’s Review:

This story is set in the early days, when Vikings were ravaging and pillaging what would be parts of the current United Kingdom.
The heroine, Kaylla has been given the burden of caring for the two remaining members of her family a younger brother and her disconnected mother. The heroine meets all the standards of being strong and honorable, I felt her obsession with sex in the very beginning to be a bit of a turn off.  However, once the hero was brought into the fray of things, it flowed much better.
When it came to the hero, Rolf I was very pleased that the author chose to steer his characteristics away from the stereotypical Viking. Even though he pillaged, he was not uncaring, nor did he enjoy the suffering of others.
There was lots of hot foreplay throughout the read and the sex scenes weren’t lacking. However, I found the storyline dragging until about halfway through the book. However, once I reached that section I was intrigued until the very end.
If you’re a lover of historical reads, sexy Vikings and don’t mind a slower start you’ll like The Valiant Viking by Bambi Lynn.

The life she led came to an abrupt end the moment she laid eyes on Raphael. At first she suspected they were destined to be together--his gentle touch confirmed it. Although he didn’t know it, he ignited waves of a fiery passion that burned deep into her soul. It became brighter every day, giving her the strength she needed. Somehow she would find a way to free herself from her grandmother’s powerful magic.

Since her birth she learned vicariously from observing others of her kind and until now she was satisfied with the life she led. She had everything one would need to live a meaningful life without the stress the human world inflicts on its inhabitants. With each passing day her obsession to be more than she was, intensified. Jessica knew she was gifted with her race's abilities to communicate with others but until now she had never used them. They say practice makes perfect and she was at a point now where she could make her presence known—at least to him

Doug's Review:

After reading Eternal Lovers I must admit that I grabbed this second book immediately and started reading. It should be noted that these 2 books represent over 1000 pages of reading (that is like 4 of your normal PNR/UF books) and I enjoyed it greatly. I must say that for whatever reason I found myself enjoying this second book more than the first, possibly because I was already familiar with the characters and most of the stories were set-up in Eternal Lovers.

I assumed when I started this novel that the main thrust of the book would be the romance revolving around Raphael/Jessica (which the synopsis leads you to believe) but this novel encompasses at least 3 couples (possibly more if you include ones mentioned in book 1 but detailed here). If this review seems a bit short it is because for the most part this novel finishes stories that were begun in book 1 Eternal Lovers and so to detail these stories would be a bit of a spoiler for those who have not read it yet.

While this novel was primarily about the couples and the romance, the overarching story of the war keeps moving forward and looks to be more prevalent in the next book. This series so far has been a very happy series without the angst usually being a prime ingredient in these type novels but I was glad to have a book where most things turned out well and the evil was kept to a minimum but from what I have read of the next book Eternal Blades, that is about to change.

NOTE: I am anxious to see what the future has for Ronan, I get the feeling he will be a force to reckon with if angered.

Bottom Line: Buy these 2 books, they will give you days of reading (or sleepless nights) as they are addicting and enthralling entertainment and I can't wait to see more of this story evolve. 4.5 Stars

Doug's Review of Blood and Sand by Elizabeth Hunter

Title: Blood and Sand (Elemental World)#2
Author: Elizabeth Hunter
Author's Website: Elemental Books Site or Elizabeth Hunter Blog
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services, Inc.
Genre: Paranormal Romance with a Bit of Action/Suspense
Length: 285 pgs
Buy Link: Blood and Sand (Elemental World)#2

NOTE: While this book can be read and enjoyed without reading the preceding novels I would advise against it. The best reading order would be:

The Elemental Mysteries (Best Series of 2011/12- Click here for Series Review)

A Hidden Fire - FREE BOOK! You can decide for free.
This Same Earth
The Force of Wind
A Fall of Water

The Elemental World Novels

Building From Ashes
Waterlocked: An Elemental World Novella (Good story but can be skipped)
Blood and Sand

Dead women are showing up in the desert east of San Diego, and no one understands why. When the story comes to the attention of reporter Natalie Ellis, she can’t help but make comparisons to tragic deaths she’d investigated years ago. Are these women the victims of a serial killer, or something even more insidious?

Bodies may be piling up in his sire’s territory, but water vampire and feared enforcer Baojia is stuck entertaining the rich and clueless at a club in San Diego. He’s taken his exile with all the grace he could muster, but his patience is starting to thin.

Sparks fly when mortal and immortal are thrown together, and Natalie comes face to face with a reality that was lurking in the corners of her life. Pursuing the truth could cost Baojia everything, including the mortal woman who has earned his grudging respect.

Doug's Review:

This story begins with us finding Baojia running a club in San Diego as a form of punishment for his failing to protect B in a previous novel. He is vastly underutilized since he was one of the more feared enforcers in this Elemental World universe.

Natalie is a reporter that seems to have a great lack of fear or self preservation, both of which will get her into numerous situations that require Baojia to extract her from with all bodily parts and fluids intact.

This is a romance novel at heart but action filled perhaps bit more than previous novels (which I enjoyed) while not ignoring the romantic aspects of this story. The appearance of many of the characters from previous Elemental novels adds to the enjoyment and adds what I would call a “comfort” level to this book since it makes it flow more into the continuous overarching storyline from previous novels, especially concerning the “elixir”.

One of the biggest subplots of this story is the relationship between Baojia and his sire Ernesto; a story which I am wondering is actually at an end or not since Ms Hunter paints us a conflicting picture of Ernesto as being a mixture of sensitive and ruthless.

Bottom Line: This may be one of the best books in the whole series, the characters are well drawn and the story while resolved leave many things open for future plots. I have to say this was pretty much a 5 Star reading experience for me.

Unaware of an age-old prophecy, secret societies, and an enemy she doesn’t know she has, Sophie Crenshaw thinks of herself as just being average. Along with her two best friends, Deva and Tabitha, Sophie sets off on what she thinks is a normal vacation. What she doesn't know is that everything she thought she knew about who she is, and what she can do, is about to change. Thrust in a world she knows nothing about, Sophie tries to find her true self, without losing her grip on her own sanity.

Henry Chang lives in world full of magic, where the stories over the legendary Angel’s Heart are spoken in whispered conversations, and midnight meetings. His job is to protect the Heart, keep it safe from anyone who wishes to hurt it or its Keeper. In a divine moment, he's tied to the Keeper’s heart forever. While trying to understand his own feelings, Henry does what he can to support Sophie, and keep her from falling apart.

With the help of Willow Crest members, who are sworn to protect her, without ever meeting her, Sophie will struggle to get control of her feeling and new found powers. Or will it be too much for her to handle? Will their growing love give Sophie the strength and courage to face the greatest challenge of her young life?

I received a free review copy of "Angel's Heart: the Keeper" in exchange for an honest review. The book has a creative story line and plot, and the Willow Creek society could yield a number of stories in addition to this one.  Several romances bloom, and the main characters, Sophie and Henry, lend a decidedly new adult quality to the story.

The sparse sexual tension was disappointing, and Sophie, the heroine, cried and complained like a disgruntled child through over half the story. I found it difficult to like Sophie, but Henry, charming and loving, and the Willow Creek Society cast with their special abilities, helped redeem the story. I would have liked to see more tension and an emotionally mature heroine since the book is not categorized as YA or New Adult, but believe most paranormal romance readers will enjoy the action/fight scenes, the hero, and the unique Willow Creek Society characters. Three satin pillows.

Damn, he woke her. After only a few hours of sleep, she was sitting up, her head tilted back to catch the whiffs of air generated from the ceiling fan. She pulled the collar of the robe from her damp neck.
He closed his laptop, retrieved a bottle of water from the kitchen and handed it to her. Perched on the edge of her coffee table, he waited while she rubbed the bottle across her sweaty brow and gave a throaty sigh before twisting the cap. Completely unaware of the sensual picture she presented, Stella tossed her head back, tipped the bottle to her lips and gulped until she drained it.
“How long have I been asleep?” She licked the moisture from her lips.
He ignored the lengthening poke of his cock. “A few hours. We need to talk.” Elbows on his knees, he leaned closer to her.
She paused, her eyes shifted around the room. “If not the most dreaded sentence in the world, it must be in the top five.” She took a deep fortifying breath and squared her shoulders. “Go ahead.”
She thinks I’m leaving her. He studied her until she squirmed uncomfortably under the glare. It galled to be lumped together with everyone else that hurt, left, and disappointed her.
“I believe you’re correct about the killings.”
Her eyebrows shot into her hairline. “You do?”
He nearly laughed. “Surprising, huh? Well you made a convincing argument and I’d be foolish to ignore the possibility.”
“So, you’re leaving now,” she stated flatly.
Every muscle rigid, he sat back. “Do you have a death wish? “Cause if there’s someone targeting me, they’re using you to do it.”
Stella nodded solemnly while her fingers twisted in her robe. She chewed the corner of her mouth before she mumbled, “When do you leave?”
His thumb swept across her full bottom lip. When her cheek turned into his palm, his heart caved.
“I’m not leaving, Stella. I will never leave you. I said I would protect you. And I will.” He leaned closer. “With my last breath.”
Her unflinching stare met his. “I want to protect myself. Will you show me how?”
A simple request. “Yes,” he nodded. “I’ll teach you.”
She leaned in. “Thank you.”
Temptation ate at him, but he stood and walked to the other side of the room.
“Go back to sleep, Stella.” He turned off the lights, yanked his shirt over his head and stretched out on the creaking floor.
“Why are you on the floor?” Her voice wavered.
Graced with superior eyesight, he watched her struggling with the robe twisted around her body. “My back wouldn’t appreciate sleeping in that chair and its cooler down here.”
“I can’t see you.” Fear etched her voice.
The mattress squeaked and he heard the soft slap of her feet on the wooden floor.
“I’m right here.” He touched her smooth foot and circled her ankle.
She didn’t pull away, but waited until he removed his hand to climb back onto the futon.  She punched her pillow and settled into a comfortable spot.
“Roman, isn’t the floor hard?”
She sounded like a child asking a question when she already knew the answer.
“I’ve slept on worse and in worse,” he muttered.
“Umm … the bed is big enough for both of us.”
Did she know she offered him exactly what he wanted and where he wanted to be? “You’re asking me to sleep with you?”
“I’m offering to share the futon with you,” she corrected.

Standing next to the futon, he whispered, “Why?”
She jumped, her hand stretched out in front of her, searching for him. “Damn, how can you move that fast? I didn’t hear you.”
“Answer the question. Why?”
“I … can’t let you sleep on the floor.” She scooted over and waited for him.
He should resist. The many reasons why ticked by, but the futon creaked as he lay beside her and stilled. Everything he wanted rested inches away.
“Can you see me?”
“No,” he lied, watching her bite her lip. Slowly, she relaxed, believing the darkness covered her. He sucked in a sharp breath when her hand brushed his bare chest.
“Sorry,” but a smile tweaked her lips.
Stella’s words darted through his brain. “No boyfriends,” she told McCabe. It was too ridiculous to be true. But … could she be a virgin?
“Roman,” she breathed his name and lust raced down his spine, igniting every nerve ending and wiping his brain clean of every thought, but one. He caught the belt of her robe and followed it up to the knot. A finger slipped in and loosened it.
“Yes.” His breath fanned her face. She tilted her chin up at the perfect angle for his lips to cover hers.
“I’ve never had a man in my home before.”
His finger stopped, and withdrew. What the hell am I doing? She drugged him with her words, frailty and covered body. He had to get out of her bed, her apartment, maybe the city, let one of his men protect her.
She touched him again, ran her palm over his stubbled jaw, then traced a finger over his eyebrows and down the bridge of his nose. She played with the shell of his ear until his chest rumbled with suppressed laughter. Then her fingers found his lips and the laughter stopped.
